The Gear family tree has its
beginnings in Parsons Drove Cambridgeshire,
Wisbech England with Hannah Gear(nee Sharpe born 1801) and John Gear (born 1811) .
The tree continued in New Zealand when their grandson Joseph Samuel Gear arrived in the Otago gold fields.
Joseph after two years sailed to Australia to try his luck in the gold fields in the Monaro District.
It was there that he met his wife Mary-Anne Huggett in Braidwood and raised a family.
Joseph, Mary-Anne and their family later moved to Marlborough, New Zealand prior to 1907. Mary-Anne passed away on 28th October 1907 in Blenheim New Zealand
and Joseph passed away 27th August 1932 at Waterlea Farm Havelock, New Zealand.
The dominant families represented on
this tree are the Gear Family, Hearfield Family, Leitch
Family, Pope Family and the
Hawksworth Fawkes Family
During the course of creating this tree I have decided to
include as many branches and twigs as I can depending on the information
received from all family members and
information sourced from the internet and other family trees. This provides an interesting insight into our many family connections and the trials and
tribulations facing some of those families and some surprising connections going back through the years that are connected to the Gear Family either directly or by marriage.
I will continue to manage and update the family tree as further information and data is found or provided. This site is updated by Kenneth Gear and you are welcome to contact me at

The Gear family tree is currently linked to 661 other family trees or genealogy sites.
